At GenSpark, we provide the best-in-class technical and soft skill training to recast our clients’ network. That training is conducted by our team of technical instructors that come to GenSpark with over 30 years of combined experience.
The day in the life of a GenSpark technical instructor is spent training dozens of GenSparkers in the skills they need to be successful as future developers. Each GenSpark instructor focuses on one of 20+ skillsets including Java Full Stack, AWS, Oracle, Guidewire, ServiceNow, and more! But that’s not all.
Our technical instructors don’t just train, they provide job-ready preparation which includes resume assistance, interview prep, and 1-on-1 mentorship. Day in and day out, they witness the potential talent that comes through GenSpark and play a helping hand in sharpening that talent to meet client needs.
But don’t take our word from it, meet the instructors yourself! Introducing Adam Ingram and Jacob Goodson, two of GenSpark’s Java Instructors, who took time to answer four of GenSpark’s most frequently asked questions! Continue Reading Below:
Meet Adam Ingram, Electronic Engineer turned Lead Technical Instructor
Twenty years ago, Adam worked as an Electronic Engineer where he’d help train new employees on different camera models. He didn’t know it then, but this is where his passion for helping people was born.
A few years back, he decided to be courageous! Adam completely changed his career and pursued his dream of becoming a software engineer. Enter GenSpark:
“I came across GenSpark, and they gave me the awesome opportunity to be one of the Technical Instructors here. So, I actually get to work with students everyday and help them grow as developers.”
Meet Jacob Goodson, Lead Technical Instructor
Prior to joining GenSpark, Jacob witnessed a trend of students getting Computer Science or other Technical Degrees but being unable to land a job in their field. This ignited a flame in him that told him, he had to do something to bridge the gap.
“The reason I got involved in this is because there is a multitude of students that graduate from academia, and they are not ready to enter the workforce … It’s my passion to help those students find their vision in life and live it out to the fullest.”
Frequently Asked Questions Answered by Adam & Jacob
Adam and Jacob spend their days putting their passion to work by training GenSparkers in both technical and soft skills. They see firsthand what it takes to be a GenSparker, and how success is measured in our program. So, who best than Adam and Jacob, to answer your frequently asked questions about GenSpark?
Why Should I Join GenSpark?
Jacob: “A candidate should choose GenSpark because we have a real time interactive curriculum .. Our curriculum gives you immediate feedback. A lot of times an instructor will be busy with another student or involved in developing curriculum or some other activity and so you need immediate feedback, you need quick feedback, you need short feedback loops to really have an effective learning experience, and our curriculum actually does a lot of that.
When you’re doing a problem or interrogating the code, our curriculum tells you in real time where you’re wrong and what you need to do to improve your coding capabilities.”
Who Succeeds in the Program?
Adam: “What I think would be a good quality associate would be grit. The reason I say grit is because they need to continue to work hard and grow as the course goes on. The course is not easy. The course starts very quickly, and it progresses very quickly. So, it gets harder and harder and harder.
Students are going to have to continue to work hard and study every single day and every night. And if they don’t do that, then you know, they’re going to struggle. So, I do believe the one characteristic that make a student stand out amongst the other students is someone who is going to put in the extra work and work hard no matter what.”
Jacob: “Qualities that really help a GenSparker do well in our program is discipline. You’re going to be coding a lot, and there are going to be times when you’re frustrated. There will be times when you’re going to be upset because you feel like you’re not learning the way you should be learning, or you may be comparing yourself to other people. But none of that matters.
All that matters is how well you do. So, as long as you’re disciplined, as long as you continuously try and never give up, you’ll do really well in our program.”
Should I Choose GenSpark or a Bootcamp?
Adam: “Our program is different than a bootcamp because first of all, our curriculum is different. Every bootcamp I’ve read about or talked to other students about they have an 8-hour day where they spend about 4-6 hours in lecture time. They spend so much being told what to do that they don’t get to actually do it.
In our curriculum, it is designed where we have very little lecture and lots of coding. We like to say ‘we’re going to make you code to your fingers bleed’ because that’s what we want you to do. We want you to code, code, code.”

What will I learn during GenSpark’s Java training?
Adam: “Our Java Full Stack curriculum consists of Java, obviously the core, then you have Hibernate, MySQL, Springboot, and React. We do those for a reason because it builds. Our students start out learning Core Java, and then it progresses to Hibernate and then hibernate with MySQL, and then it progresses to Springboot.
Which they also learn Core Spring as well, but the idea of Springboot is to teach them how to build Rest APIs. So that conforms the entire backend of an application and then they learn React for the frontend. Then we tie it all together to finish it off, and that is the Java Full Stack Training.”
